Movement Detroit 2015 Recapitulation
A journey into techno, modern art, and technology in the Hart of Detroit.
As the headliners for 2015 have already been announced we can now determine that As we speculated Richie Hawtin will headline Saturday, Dog Blood on Sunday, and Dj Snoopadelic will close out on Monday.
Fans can also expect to see Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White perform together one-last time as the famed Canadian duo, Art Department.
From this initial day-by-day lineup schedule we can also determine the curator showcases. Special showcases for the weekend include Disclosure Presents Wild Life and Detroit Love Showcase on Saturday. Ghostly International Day – a look back at the label’s roots and into the future will be on Sunday, as will Juan Atkin’s Metroplex Records showcase. Kevin Saunderson’s ORIGINS — a celebration of originators, torchbearers and next wave creators of Techno, will be Monday, as will the Detroit Techno Militia Showcase.
There will be six stages again this year at Movement. In 2014 there were the traditional 5 stages we’ve seen in recent years, plus the Silent Disco Stage, an odd attempt at cross promoting Sennheiser headphones and Ford Motor Company, where the stage attendees could only hear music through the use of headphones. Though not official, we’re assuming the additional stage this year will not be using these same tactics.
The six stages include: Movement Main Stage, Red Bull Music Academy Stage, Beatport Stage, Made in Detroit Stage presented by Thump, (the ever independent and aptly-named) Underground Stage, and the (also unsponsored, logically-named) Sixth Stage. The Hart Plaza Movement Festival Map has yet to be published but I believe it is safe to assume stage locations will be nearly identical to 2014.
A few things that have stood out for the performances at Movement 2015: First is the great variety of performers. A wealth of electronic music genres, hip-hop, legends within all strands of music, up and comers, mainstream acts and underground loyalists. The second is the amount of live acts. There are at least 20 live acts booked this year and out of the 15 Dj Frequencies picks for Saturday (below) more than half are live performances.
