Moogfest is a celebration that honors the creativity and inventiveness of Moog Music founder Dr. Robert Moog, and pays tribute to the legacy of the analog synthesizer. The event will attract 50,000 people (10,000 per day) from a cross-section of creative professionals, hackers, influencers and trendsetters, circuit benders, designers, programmers, audio engineers, new media artists, coders, and bedroom producers, seeking to be inspired in their work.
Moogfest 2014 will take place in Asheville, North Carolina: Wednesday April 23 – Sunday April 27. Moogfest 2014 has expanded to a five day event exploring the synthesis of technology, art and music.
BY DAY – the event will be the conference style, technology/art portion of Moogfest 2014. Guided by pioneers of music and technology, and co-curated by some of the most important thinkers of today. Including talks, panels, discussion, presentations, and film screenings with futurist thinkers, inventors, entrepreneurs, designers, engineers, artists, and musicians. There will also be synth building workshops and other interactive education and an open source hardware hackathon.
BY NIGHT – is the music portion of the Moogfest 2014 lineup. Five evenings of musical performances in over ten venues across the city, including arena concerts, experimental performances, and new music showcases.
Moogfest also hosts free events open to the public including a 4 day street festival, including new media art installations and live music. The 2 day North Carolina Tech Expo & Interactive Job Fair. And a 5 day new electronic instrument pop-up shop.
Along with inviting some of the world’s preeminent thought leaders to participate in the daytime conference, including multimedia artist Laurie Anderson, disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder, film composer Cliff Martinez,and instrument pioneer Roger Linn, among others, the Moogfest 2014 Lineup invites Moog-inspired record labels from across the world and the music industry’s most respected taste makers to curate their own music showcases.
Moogfest 2014 Music Showcase Curators: Experimental Record Labels WARP Records, Fools Gold, DFA, Ghostly International, No. 19 Music’s Social Experiment, RVNG Intl., and Driftless Recordings, Electronic Tastemakers Crew Love, Brooklyn-based Cultural Organization Afropunk, Detroit’s Movement Festival, North Carolina’s Hopscotch Festival, and Austin’s Switched On.
