New Music Premiere: Blake Andrew | Tidal EP

Introducing the four track EP, Tidal, from Blake Andrew. The release creeps into existence with the eerie “Channel,” a soft, alien-form piece with a lush, sweeping atmospheric backdrop. “Tidal” then sets the rhythm for the remainder of the EP with a deeper, acidic bassline used as a foundation while signature, electro-style highs drive the pace. There’s a long section just past midway where the acid line is filtered through peaks and valleys before culminating into the most energetic summit of the track.

Tides” continues with a pulsing syth lead that slowly progresses into the track and at times develops into more of a static growl. The track then takes a more elevated form as the syth framework continues to mutate and take a rhythm of its own. To end the release “Sinuate” take a more fundamental approach, layering classic drum machine sounds in a step-latter pattern and building in obscure robotic stabs and a foghorn style melodic stride. The track alternates between periods of high energy built with layers of electro-based highs and immediately stepping back into Roland style drum patterns.

To accompany the recent release Blake Andrew has posted several Dj mixes that yield a glimpse into historical influences for the artist and the Tidal EP.

The first being an Acid Techno mix that combines classic and contemporary Acid with more aerial and melancholy approaches by the likes of: Platikman, Tin Man and Telefon Tel Aviv, to higher-pace party jams from artists like: Paranoid London, Justin Cudmore, Lauren Flax and Trackman.

The Deep Techno mix sheds light on the darker, and at times, dystopian aspect to the artists’ influences. The mix includes: Function, a Sandwell District remix from Ben Klock, Dino Sabatini, Etapp Kyle, Damon Wild, Henning Baer, Cio D’Or, James Ruskin, Marcell Dettmann, Lucy, Zeitgeber and others.
