On My Way To DEMF: Day 2

Blake swooped me up and off to Erin’s house we went. She had cold beer and a buffet of amazing food waiting for us- grilled salmon, beet salad, raw tacos, and a variety of homemade sauces, oh don’t forget the freshly made cashew cilantro cheese.

Finally made it into Detroit last night around 9pm, what a trip trying to get from Knoxville. I sat through a storm on the tarmac, with the possible threat of a flight cancelation and an overnight in Atlanta. Couple this with a seat in Row 46 which turned out to be the tail of the plane, ANY FURTHER BACK I WOULD HAVE PUT ON A UNIFORM AND SERVED THE PASSENGERS DRINKS.

A long night of great conversations, laughs, and Daniel fell asleep in the bathroom on the sink. Now we’re heading out to get breakfast before checking into the hotel. Tonight should be promising with a few spots, ending at one of Detroit’s funk nights.

An interesting, and I’ll admit, stressful start to the weekend. Flight changes, flight delays, waiting in the plane for your flight to leave… and me gingerly carting along I-94 at speeds ranging from 30-60 mph in a torrential downpour. But let’s be honest, it wasn’t the rain slowin me down – it was my fellow travelers. At this point, I had no idea if my best-man was actually going to make it to Detroit tonight at all. With the apparent delay facing me, I decided to take a break from the road, hit Ann Arbor for some Ahi Tuna Taco’s, local brews and be back on the road before Ryan had a chance to make me feel guilty about it. Alas, he caught me… as soon as I’m wrapping up his flight lands and I hit the pavement. It worked out perfect though, he stepped out the arrivals door just as I was pulling in to Detroit Metro.

The dank meal and Polish beers awaiting us in Hamtramck made it all seem so trivial. It was clear we were off to a good start for a great weekend.
