Movement 2013 Schedule – DEMF 2013

The Movement 2013 Schedule has now been released. First there were some shakeups concerning the stages for 2013. The Redbull Music Academy Stage, usually by the riverfront pyramid structure, is now taking over the Main Stage. The Beatport Stage, traditionally also by the riverfront but on the grassy plain area in front of the boat, will be taking Redbull’s place. Taking the place of the Beatport Stage old spot is a new addition of the Electric Forest Festival Stage, another Paxahau music festival that takes place in July in Rothbury, Michigan. The Made in Detroit Stage will continue it’s place near the front of the festival by Jefferson Ave and the Underground Stage will of course remain underground.

So what does this mean for the Detroit Electronic Music Festival 2013 Schedule? Not a whole lot technically… Traditionally the Red Bull Music Academy Stage has focused mainly on the Dubstep and Drum n Bass acts. Movement 2012 did see a bit of a change as far as that’s concerned, but the stage has been known for bringing up-in-coming acts growing popular in electronic music. Judging on the Redbull Stage Lineup its now going to be a mix of the zeitgiest acts for the year (TEED, XXXY, TOKiMONSTA) as well as what would traditionally be featured on the main stage such as legendary techno Djs (Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig, Dave Clarke) and well known performers (Squarepusher, Dubfire).

The Beatport Stage, similar to the Redbull Stage, has been expanded and also given a little mix up. Over the last few years the Beatport stage has started to feature more, shall I say, commercial acts. This is evident here with headliners John Digweed, Masters at Work and Moby. Most of the remainder seems like a typical lineup for the Beatport stage and has some decent acts like Annie Hall, Art Department, Ellen Allien, Soul Clap and I’m interested to see Phantasmagoria there.

DEMF 2013 does have some great features: In addition to the five technologically-rich outdoor stages with 116 artists performing there will be free Wi-Fi access on the grounds, an interactive technology center for music gear, and several art displays to stimulate the senses.
