The lineup for Lollapalooza 2010 is out. The event takes place August 6-8 in Chicago. The main headliners are less than impressive but should probably sell some tickets and lets face it, that’s really the name of the game. At first glance I saw nothing that could keep this music festival in line with the other major US music festivals. On a second glance I see there is some great talent there, but it still doesn’t excite me as much as 2009. Highlights include: MGMT, Erykah Badu, Grizzly Bear, Deer Tick, The Big Pink, The Dodos, Wavves, Royal Bangs, The Black Keys and Spoon. For me, that, along with the excellent venue at Grant Park still keeps Lollapalooza the only heavy weight music festival in the midwest. The DJ sets at Perry’s are ridiculous… too mainstream to even mention and surely do not depict true talent from today’s electronic artists, just my option…

Yawnapalooza, sorry. Some good acts, but nothing that sells me a ticket – well, DEVO and Soundgarden, maybe, but that’s about it. And on that note, let me guess that Soundgarden and DEVO both play on that field with inadequate sound. I understand acoustics on a wide open area are difficult, and the sound does bang in the VIP areas, but for the majority that are at the show NOT in the VIP section or NOT hugging a speaker, the sound on that stage area is garbage when crowded.
I would add, however, good on Perry for continuing to bring a great 3 day festival to Grant Park.
