DEMF 2012: Saturday – Movement Day 1 Recap

DEMF Movement 2012 Main Stage
We made it into Detroit and settled just in time to catch the back end of Actress‘ set. Any sign of rain had subsided and the atmosphere was clear for DEMF day 1. Actress’ set was impressive. I had a chance to sit down and chat with him for a moment later in the afternoon. It was his first time to Detroit and seemed to enjoy it so far, setting his jetlag aside. We conversed about Detroit and what after parties to hit for the night over some Jack Daniels and smoke. After his set we didn’t any other sets on the plan so we decided to start hitting stages till we found something we liked. We struck out. On every stage. Moving the music aside we met with some friends to catch up in the sunshine. Later on Derrick Carter‘s set was was extremely fun and poised and the Main Stage has excellent sound this year. As I feared, Photek‘s set was tainted with the help of a jabbering MC. Luckily we still had time to finish out the remainder of Carter’s set.

CLR Movement 2012 After Party

We left the festival a little early to head to Elysium for the CLR party. Drumcell threw down on the main level and the sound and visuals did not disappoint. Chris Liebing and Speedy J’s Collabs set was relentless and energetic though it lacked some dynamics. Downstairs Monoloc and Tommy Four Seven each had tremendous sets and the sound and atmosphere was great. Everyone was having a great time and much of the talent to be featured at the Interface after party on Sunday was there to represent.

Elysium Visuals CLR Movement 2012

All in all a good start for the Movement festival weekend. Paxahau has paid some extra attention to the details of sound and visuals for the year with each stage having a sound/visuals tent.
