Best Techno Mixes & Electronic Music Podcasts 2017

We introduce our recommendations for the Best Techno Mixes & Electronic Music Podcasts for 2017. We’ve spent countless hours scouring through the immense multitude of dj mixes and podcasts out there and narrowed it down to the following. This is by no means a comprehensive list as it’s nearly impossible to hear all podcasts and mixes throughout the year. We feel this is a diverse list of music mixes that will take you on a journey and supply you with music for any disposition or frame of mind you may find yourself in.

The entire list for 2017 contains 45 mixes with 64 hours : 7 minute : 35 seconds of music.

We’ve split up the list for 2017 into 6 different playlists. Depending on your particular electronic music mood, you can navigate directly to each section below or listen to each playlist separately on soundcloud.

Don’t see your favorite techno or electronic music mixes of 2017 on the list? Leave us a comment we’d love to hear from you.

Best Electronic-&-World-Music-Influenced Podcasts 2017

Electronic & World Music Influenced

This section is dominated by mixes from the Ninja Tune Solid Steel Radio Show; which is a great place to find all types of music and it’s my go-to podcast to find interesting mixes with miscellaneous music from all over the world.

You’ll find everything here from the mellowed droned-out sounds from Clocolan to the funky, latin and disco influenced grooves from OYE Records. Afrobeat legend Tony Allen brings his jazzy message to the mix. You literally Roll The Dice with their Electronic Explorations mix bringing in everything from strange electronic recordings to hip-hop. The Parisian French Duo Acid Arab create a space for Arab culture in the world of contemporary electronic music with their mix of mostly original music as well as tracks from similar minded artists.

Black Motion bring South African  House into the light with a dazzling mix. MJ Cole shows another side to his musical tastes with a beautiful set taking in music from the likes of Jon Hopkins, Nils Frahm, Floating Points, Steve Reich, Radiohead and Bonobo, plus some of his own productions. To end this section out we have the Tycho Sunrise DJ Set on The Dusty Rhino at Burning Man. This mix could have easily fit well within the Live Sets section and especially the after hours, but the style of tracks really topped this playlist off. Tycho has been playing these sunrise sets at Burning Man for the last 3+ year and each one ends up on our best mixes. I’ve never had the chance to see this set live but his style seems perfect for this venue and set time.

Best Tech-House-&-Deep-House Podcasts 2017

Deep House and Tech-House Grooves

I wish we had a few more mixes in this section as I have gravitated more and more towards deep house grooves this year. If you know of more podcasts containing music similar to what’s included in this playlist, shoot us a line.

To kick things off Butane brings the underground house with his summer 2017 mix. John Tejada follows up with this guest mix for THUMP and Dj Minx brings her funky, bumping house from Detroit. Sei A tops this short playlist off with a diverse mix of everything from Andres to Amp Fiddler to Beat Spacek and Central.

Best Live-Techno-Sets 2017

Live Techno Sets

The sets from this section could in fact be split up across the other sections for 2017, but I thought it best to branch these off given the unique style of each set.

Deep house legend Kerri Chandler kicks things off with a funky, upbeat jazz set. We hand it off to another monumental legend, Laurent Garnier recorded live at the opening night of Slam’s Maximum Pressure event in Glasgow. Altstadt Echo brings a well-versed two hour mix which was the opening set at the RA Underground Stage from Movement Detroit 2017.

From Boiler Room, Blawan brings his synthesized setup and presents a one-off live performance as Kilner as part of the Avian takeover. If you’d rather watch the live performance than listen you can catch the recording here. We head back to another Movement Detroit 2017 live set from Function, also on the RA Underground Stage, who brought his classic techno sound and worked his TR-909 proper. Simian Mobile Disco‘s Jas brought thumping electro, acid, house and techno to packed Corsica Studios for an RA Refugees fundraiser.

Known for their raw, industrial style, Surgeon & Lady Starlight are a musical match made in heaven. Their improvised live sets are a true representation of dark, experimental Techno. Enjoy their recording from Loveland Live. Saving some of the more peak techno for last Takaaki Itoh comes correct with a live set at the Long Count 4 Year Anniversary.

Best Deep Techno Podcasts 2017

Deep Minimal Techno

Some of these mixes aren’t the deepest techno out there, but they definitely deserve to be split off from the darker, more peak hour mixes below.

ASC starts things off with a Horo Vision podcast that weaves between Grey Area exclusives and deep hypnotic Techno. Ntogn, a techno project developed by Hypnus Records’ founder Michel, brings a deep and expansive mix for the Monument podcast series. Svreca explores tripped out techno on his RA mix and Locked Groove brings in new and old favs peppered with his new and unreleased material.

Blaze Malinowski has far-out acid techno in store and Lindsey Herbert cues melodic, down-tempo techno for Detroit’s Blank Code podcast. Iceland’s Exos shares his favorite tracks from 2016 on his mix for Slam’s podcast and  after a subtle opening with music from Andy Stott and Arca, Pris launches into tracks from Svreca, Marcel Dettmann, Planetary Assault Systems, Tessela, Lewis Fautzi and Aphex Twin to close.

Best Darker-Peak-Hour-Techno Mixes 2017

Peak-Hour Hard Techno

When you’re in the mood for some high-energy, punishing techno, this section is the place.

We get things moving with a set from Cassegrain then Nihad Tule takes us on a 2 hour journey through techno. Midwesterner Karl Meier, now residing in Berlin,  brings his phenomenal slamming, broken beat techno style. The mix from SP-X on Erratic podcast could have been plucked out of a late ’90’s early ’00’s underground techno party, which likely why I’m so drawn to it. Kirk Degiorgio, what can I say, a pure UK legend that truly knows how to work a dance floor.

Rødhåd‘s mix for Dekmantel Podcast is a high pressure and enchantingly linear set that touches on Millsian space vibes, industrialism and unhinged apocalypse music in one smoothly mixed and sequenced session that will leave you out of breath.

Barcelona-based Annie Hall delivers an hour of intensity for Jeff Derringer’s recently created Oktave Records podcast. Nastia Reigel starts out with plenty of spacial techno for her Hate Podcast but distributes some punishing peak-hour tracks before the set is out. Plural brings a massively energetic, classic techno turntablist set to close things out.

 Best After-Hours Sets 2017

Afterhours Sets

These mixes were not necessarily put together from the dj/artist with an after hours party in mind, but I felt they’re a great way to wind down the night/morning.

You don’t want top go too heady, too quick for an after hours set and Salt Lake City’s Mathew Fit brings a perfect mix of deep house and dubby techno selections to confirm the mood. We didn’t want to fall down the rabbit hole just yet, so we slapped this mix from Darwin in which brings true, dark ass fuck Dubstep in an all-vinyl set which I thing is a perfect way to change tones for an evening. Sandrien drops a carefully-curated selection of ambient, IDM, broken beats and techno for Fabric that will get you in the right head space.

Donato Dozzy crosses the gambit in his Secret Closing Set at Terraforma 2017 with lots of dub, electronica, IDM and drum n bass. Dan Sherman layers field recordings with dreamy and uplifting tracks for his Modyfier process partChris SSG compiles a sensitive mixture of ambient selections for his XLR8R Podcast that allows your mind the capacity to reminisce on the night. Last to end out the night/morning and our selections for 2017 Vinicius creates a space for deep, cerebral early morning meditations and sunshine.

Thanks for reading and listening. Enjoy.
